Returning to Earth

Updated: Nov 7

May we walk gently on the Earth, honouring the wisdom of Indigenous peoples who have lived in harmony with the land for generations.

May we continue to learn from their ancient ways of knowing, and recognize the Earth as our mother, our teacher, our elder, and our friend.

In this journey of returning to Indigenous ways of living, learning, and breathing, may we cultivate a deep sense of reciprocity, respect, and responsibility towards the land and all its inhabitants.

One of the biggest threats to colonialism is returning to living in harmony with the Earth. Seeing our oneness with her. Learning from her. Trusting in her rhythms. Healing our minds from the programming we’ve inherited that told us Earth is to be controlled or that we are separate from her. Healing our hearts from the suffering we’ve felt from watching her be mistreated. Seeing our interconnectedness with all life. Supporting one another as one human family to come back to these original ways.

Deeply listening, witnessing, healing, & integrating.

Grateful to all the souls here on the ancestral territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən-speaking peoples, the Songhees, Esquimalt, and W̱SÁNEĆ Nations, who continue to walk in this way and are breathing with the whole Earth to ensure these Indigenous ways are not forgotten. And to all beings across all lands sharing their original ways to help us all heal with the Earth. We are all in this together.

~Brooke’s lineage is an amazing rainbow, and she has always identified with the richness of all humanity, rather than any one tribe or people. Her family claims ancestry in six native tribes (Crow, Nez Perce, Lakota, Cree, Piegan and Cherokee) as well as European blood from Scotland, Ireland, and Denmark. She is a non-traditional member of the Crow Indian tribe in Montana, where she grew up in a half-breed rancher family, homesteading in the beautiful high country of the reservation~

Land Acknowledgements
With great reverence, Aroha Rising acknowledges the traditional and unceded territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Xʷsepsəm/Esquimalt) Peoples on whose territory we gather on, honouring the ongoing stewardship, rich cultural traditions and resilience of all Coast Salish peoples. With a grateful heart, we aim to continue to build respectful relations that honour the land, the water, the people, the animals and all benevolent spirits supporting the true reconciliation needed at this time.
